Advanced Level 4 TESOL Certificate
Course Scaffolding for prospective students.
Duration: 12 Weeks (150 hours)
Format: Online self-study with quizzes, supplemented by online face-to-face workshops in weeks 9 and 10.
You will be introduced to TESOL through the course foundations and language acquisition. Week 1 covers the basics of language teaching and learning, along with the history and main approaches in TESOL. Week 2 looks at language acquisition theories and the factors that affect how you learn a language. Quizzes help you check your understanding.
You will explore two key teaching approaches. Week 3 covers Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), including its principles, classroom practices, activities, and techniques. Week 4 focuses on Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT), with guidance on understanding the method and designing task-based lessons. Quizzes support your learning along the way.
You will study classroom management and assessment. Week 5 covers rapport, discipline, and managing classroom dynamics. Week 6 focuses on assessment and feedback, including types of assessment in TESOL and how to give effective feedback. Quizzes are included to reinforce each module.
You will focus on developing the core language skills. Week 7 covers teaching speaking and listening, with strategies for building confidence and improving comprehension. Week 8 looks at teaching reading and writing, including practical approaches and techniques you can use in the classroom. Quizzes are included to support review.
Workshop 1: Interactive Activities and Demonstrations
In Week 10, the Face-to-Face Workshop 2 focuses on Classroom Management and Assessment Strategies. You'll engage in interactive activities and demonstrations to enhance your skills in managing classrooms and assessing students effectively.
You will move into advanced TESOL topics in the final weeks. Week 11 covers technology in TESOL, including ways to use online resources and tools in language teaching. Week 12 focuses on English for Specific Purposes (ESP), including needs analysis and ESP curriculum design. You will also complete quizzes and a final project.
